Education in South Sudan is modeled after the educational system of the Republic of Sudan. Primary education is made up of 8 years, followed by 4 years of secondary education, the 8- 4- 4 system (the system is reverting to the 6-3-3 system as of the 2020/21 academic year). The South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education also known as CSE is a national examination that is taken annually at the end of secondary education. It is conducted and offered by the South Sudan Board of the Examination. Secondary education is in preparation for university entry.
